How To Promote Yourself on Twitter .. TODAY!
July 23rd, 2009 · by @WarrenWhitlock · Filed Under: Social Media · Twitter · Twitter Stories · Twitter Tips & Tools · Warren Whitlock Live
I’m teaching a class on how to promote yourself on Twitter.
NOTE: It’s not about adding a lot of bogus followers and spamming them
To promote yourself right, be part of something bigger than yourself. That’s I’m inviting EVERYONE who wants to show they are a GIVER to tweet along with us, make new connections and build relationship with REAL PEOPLE today.
HOW TO PLAY
Simple to join us:
Starting today (July 23) at 2pm Eastern (11am Pacific) I will tell our class about the #GREENLIGHT hash tage and the link to this explanation — http://budurl.com/greenlight (this link will come back to this explanation)
I’ll teach them to follow the thread of posts and add their own so they can network with you and other GIVERS on Twitter.
If you post a tweet with #GREENLIGHT during the next few hours, thousands of givers will see it.. and see that you are one of us. So will like what they see, real human tweeps with something to say and a giving attitude. You will get a few new followers that see you as a Twitter user who “get it”
The event continues after the class ends and I go to meet up with fans of WHO’S GOT YOUR BACK by Keith Ferrazzi. If you are in Atlanta, you can join us FREE but the for our purposes.. it’s just a great excuse to promote GOOD ENERGY. I’ll tell everyone there about #GREENLIGHT and the group of great networkers will check and see your tweets too.
What’s Good Energy?
Anytime you help another person, pay it forward, or just treat your fellow human beings as important individuals, you are spreading good energy.
On 9/9/9, people all over the Earth will be part of Good Energy Day.. but you don’t have to wait to 9/9/9. You can spread good energy any time.
- Tweet with #GREENLIGHT
- Follow tweets with #GREENLIGHT to meet like minded people.
- Add a comment here with your thoughts,
- Keep sharing GOOD ENERGY.
It’s as simple at that.

I’m reading this to the class:
“You have to do something, you have to take a chance, you do have to get involved. There are people that are having trouble making their miracle happen. There are people who don’t have enough to eat, there are people that are cold…you can go out and say “hello” to these people. You can take an old blanket out of the closet and say “here” you can make them a sandwich and say “oh by the way here!” I get it now! If you give, then it can happen…then the miracle can happen to you. It’s not just the poor and hungry, it’s everybody who’s got to have this miracle!! And it can happen tonight for all of you! If you believe in this spirit thing, the miracle will happen and then you’ll want it to happen again tomorrow. You won’t be one of those (Scrooges) who says Christmas is once a year and it’s a fraud…it’s not! It can happen every day..you’ve just got to want that feeling. And if you like it and you want it you’ll get greedy for it…you’ll want it every day of your life, and it can happen to you. I believe in it now! I believe it’s gonna happen to me now, and I’m ready for it. It’s great! It’s a good feeling..it’s better than I’ve felt in a long time! I’m ready….have a Merry Christmas, everyone.”

#greenlight http://budurl.com/greenlight IS waayyy better than “follow fridays” Hats off to the creators!
Warren,
Sheesh, have someone proofread your posts…several misspellings…that looks bad.
Also for someone coming in out of nowhere to read this (like me), the directions makes absolutely no sense at all! You end with “It’s a(sic) simple as that”….only….it doesn’t seem simple at all to me…your directions make tons of assumptions… I dunno…very confusing. You don’t give a date, just a time. “our” class. What class?
The title of this post brought me in, but the content just frustrated me.

Sorry about the typos. I fixed a couple later, but will leave it mostly as is.
Here’s the story behind the story…
I had this idea about 10 minutes before a class started. Made a post, tweeted and got on the phone to teach a small audience how to do a Twitter promotion.
The class software failed and the guy moderating did all he could to derail the idea (guess he didn’t get it either).
The result: Thousands of people saw the event. Hundreds participated and dozens made new friends.
All of this happened well BEFORE you saw the piece.
People connecting with people is not just a news story. It is bypassing the traditional channels. Anyone with an idea can get it out without planning.
That being said. I’ll admit to needing an assistant like http://budurl.com/postclck
Warren-
I love good energy…
I live for good energy…
I want to share good energy with others…
What is that guy Dave’s issue? He obviously does not live to spread good energy, with all the neggy he threw into his comment.
Oh, well. Nice idea to grow a thread around good energy! Like someone else wrote, it beats #followfriday!
I Love how easily and efficiently a good idea can turn into something huge. I will be a part of this #GREENLIGHT.

I don’t agree with your “obvious” statement.
I know Dave and know he’s very much a believer in good energy.
His curt rebuke is not a true reflection on his character.
Thank you for tweeting about good energy and #greenlight
Thanks for a wonderful post and for the opportunity to EASILY meet like-minded people. I’m a Networking Coach who teaches my clients the value and importance of Netweaving (paying it forward). I’m surprised – a lot “get it” quickly and others just look as though it just skimmed over their heads!
Thanks again for the #Greenlight community. I’m thrilled to participate and would love to help in any way possible.
To Your Networking Success!

This is a great opportunity! My main reason for Twitter was originally to market, however, I believe it is more important to connect with real people for real reasons. Thanks so much!
