@GaryVee - Using Twitter to Build Your Business

August 14th, 2008
· Filed Under: Gary Vee · How to Twitter · Making Money with Twitter · New Media Expo · Social Media · Twinterviews · Twitter Videos · Twitteratti

@GaryVee could be the poster child for the revolution we talk about here at Twitter Handbook.

After his awesome keynote at New Media Expo, I jumped on stage and grabbed this Twinterview:

Gary Vaynerchuk tells why you should use twitter, where you should spend your time and how he makes money using social media - all in 140 seconds!

Enjoy!

Making it Easy to Subscribe

August 11th, 2008
· Filed Under: Twitter · Twitter Tips & Tools

I received a polite tweet this morning suggesting that we add a RSS Feed Button to this blog.

Great idea, even though there is a list of reader option in the left column of each page. I’m all for making it easy.

Here’s a button just for @colderICE Be sure to follow him and tell him thanks

Using Twitter to Make History.. and Create the Future. Twitter in the Classroom

August 9th, 2008
· Filed Under: Twitter · Twitter Videos · Twitter in Education

@mwesch used social media tools to turn what could have been a boring university lecture class into an experience that harnessed the power of students knowledge, connections and imagination.

His views on education are refreshing. The outcome from the class is fascinating.

While watching this video, I kept thinking of more ways that a small group of people can do more than we had imagined.

I look forward to seeing your comments about how you will use this in your network, relationships, groups, business and life.

Please put your @ handle in your comment so we can follow you on Twitter.

Using Twitter to Increase Your Website Traffic LIVE TWITCAST

August 8th, 2008

This Friday, the TwitCast will be dedicated to sharing our best tips on getting more readers for your blog or website.

Special Guest Tinu Abayomi-Paul, the founder of Traffic Tips has been blogging about the best free and low cost ways to get traffic since 2004.

She just announced her retirement, so I had to get her on the show.

My aim is to get her to share her best kept secrets and proven ways to use Twitter and social media to get more readers.

It’s easy to attend a live TwitCast on TwitCastRadio.com.

Just click throught the TwitCast page now. If you don’t have a BlogTalkRadio account, get one FREE so you’ll be ready when we go live.

The site automatically detects your time zone and tells you what time the next show begins, then plays the last show so you can hear it whenever you log in.

This show will air live at 7pm on the West Coast (Pacific).. that’s 10PM for Eastern and 4pm for Hawaii.

Part of the fun of the TwitCast comes from the live chat that appears during the show. Make sure you are logged in, then say hi, and share your Twitter URL with the other listeners.

You will also want to follow @WarrenWhitlock, @CoachDeb and @Tinu on Twitter

And make sure you add the TwitCast as a “favorite” and add the host (that’s WarrenWhitlock) as a friend. This helps us reach new people as our ratings grow.. with more people seeing your chat posts, etc. A good way to meet people, get more followers and ultimately traffic to your site.

CNN mentions Twitter in Another Story

August 5th, 2008

We’re not here to talk about drilling, energy, or politics.

We are here to share the rise of Twitter use by those who do care about drilling, energy and politics

Here’s a update from CNN about the #dontGo campaign

Support for House Republicans has also been active on Twitter, an
online micro-blogging service composed of short text messages. The tag
“#dontgo” set up by Odom and Ruffini and other activists late last week
is currently one of the most popular topics being tracked on
search.twitter.com. In addition to the new Web site, Rep. Eric Cantor
of Virginia has launched an online petition which has garnered more
than ten thousand online signatures so far, according to information
available on callbackcongress.com.

We are still looking for the latest news on Twitter being used to break and report the news.

Leave us a comment and we’ll quote you in the book if we can use it. Be sure to include you @ handle or Twitter URL

More News That Twitter is Making News

August 3rd, 2008
· Filed Under: Twitter Stories · Twitteratti

Twitter influencing the world stories are becoming more common.

I foresee the day soon where stories like this will be about as boring as a story of a reporter using a car or telephone, but right now.. HOW COOL!

Twitter in Congress

A tweet from @CoachDeb caught my attention:

@johnculberson u just became my FAVORITE Tweeter! TX 4 keeping America informed while the lights went out on Congress by #Pelosi

I hadn’t seen the event live, but following Congressman Culberson told me more

@petehoekstra - What a great day - lots of fun & very healthy for America & the House. Our Twitters were key Pete. CSPAN used my Qik video 01:35 AM August 02, 2008

I will let you click through to see how Twitter is a tool for democracy. My objective is show how easy it was for me to get news.. even when I wasn’t paying much attention.

Should you trust Twitter.. The Exxon Mess

As soon as I finished catching up on Congress through Twitter, I noticed a message from @BenMack to read this post from @jowyang

How “Janet” Fooled the Twittersphere She’s the Voice of Exxon Mobil

The lessons learned section at the bottom of the story are a must read

Twitter is not just for telling your tweeps about your cat, hat and TV watching plans (I’m watching The Cat in the Hat.. how did you know?). All these tweets are bits and pieces of what is really going on in our lives and some of it is very important.

But remember, Twitter is much like hanging out in a downtown shopping district of a large city. You’ll find some bargains, can meet up with friends, and meet new ones (even better on Twitter). But watch out for the guy that is selling watches and handbags. They may not be the real.

Share your Twitter Makes the the News story below.. not just a story about Twitter.. but Twitter helping the news spread faster, or best of all getting the story out that we might not have heard otherwise.

What’s your favortie story of how Twitter changed the world?

I doesn’t have to be about you. You don’t need to be the person in the story, or breaking the news. We are all reporters now!

Just scroll down and post your comment so we can include you in the our book. We know that the tweets of all of us will give us a better book. We are writing Twitter style.

Be sure to include your @ name so we can follow you.

Does the Fail Whale Eat Tweets?

July 29th, 2008

Tonight I sent five tweets. Later, I notice that 3 didn’t appear in my archive.

Maybe the whale, maybe me… probably spared my weary readers.

Now, I can tell the story of “The one that got away”

One of the tweet was to about my post on TwitHire.com. She wants a similar name for Real Estate listings on Twitter.

Twitterstate?

TwitEstate?

What’s your suggestion?

You can Tweet to me @WarrenWhitlock, or post a comment here. I’ll read it, but don’t be surprised if my @ back is eaten :)
