<p>The discussion turned to whether one should have a lot of connections, or close relationships</p>
<p>Why not both?</p>
<p>I have both, and know it&#8217;s possible. </p>
<p>It&#8217;s very natural that someone known by hundreds of millions on TV would get a million followers on Twitter. I would expect that the relationship with each of them would be at least as close as the relationship they have through TV, magazines, etc&#8230; at least there is some chance of 2 ways communication.</p>
<p>Of course, if I had to choose, I&#8217;d got for close friends over numbers. But with Twitter, you don&#8217;t have to choose.. There is no right way for follow ratios, how often you tweet or how you use Twitter.</p>
<p>NO RULES </p>
<p>I hear tweeps say &#8220;I can&#8217;t imagine how you have a relationship with thousands&#8221; They are right. Before I had thousands of connections, I couldn&#8217;t imagine it either. This is all brand new.</p>
<p>I do not expect 50,000 people to read every tweet. I DO read ALL my @ messages, all the tweets with my handle and hundreds of threads a day. It&#8217;s become a natural part of what I do.</p>
<p>Does it take a of time?</p>
<p>Nope, it SAVES a lot of time. I have loose relationship through email, phone, teleconference and media with subscribers, clients, prospects, friends and business assoicates. There is no way I could reach out to them in any way other than Twitter. </p>
<p>Twitter alone does not make for a full relationship.. but it sure helps.</p>

<p>By searching for the hashtags (unique ID words related to the event, usually starting with # sign) on the event the week before it starts, I am able to see who the real leaders are. </p>
<p>I follow many of the attendees and all of the speakers (Twitter links are on speaker bio pages and/or their blogs). Often I meet several of the speakers before the event starts, and make appointment to meet up with attendees that are active in the community. I also check to see if the is a &#8220;Tweet Up&#8221; (meeting of those who have connected on Twitter) and add that to my schedule.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve found that the best opportunities at most shows happen in this network. Once these tweeps (Twitter users) decide to RT (&#8221;ReTweet: A Twitter post that gets repeated) I know that a large active group will be aware of whatever I&#8217;m promoting.</p>
<p>Two more tips to get traffic to your booth:</p>
<p>1) Give aways for Twitter users. I often tweet &#8220;I&#8217;ve got a copy of Twitter Revolution for the next person who finds me.&#8221;&nbsp; It works for @The RealShaq with NBA tickets and it will work for you.</p>
<p>2) Get your staff tweeting. This is not a media to advertise on.. this is a way to network. Get everyone involved. Your customers expect INDIVIDUALS to be availalbe</p>

<p>Today, we literally don&#8217;t have to leave our computers to book a flight, pay a bill, shop or even connect with a tribe of like minded individuals.</p>

<p>No one could predict the impact each development would have. In fact Bill Gates famously admitted:</p>

It wasn&#8217;t like somebody told me about it and I said, &#8216;I don&#8217;t know how to spell that.&#8217; I said, &#8216;Yeah, I&#8217;ve got that on my list, so I&#8217;m okay.&#8217; But there came a point when we realized it was happening faster and was a much deeper phenomenon than had been recognized in our strategy.</em>&#8221;</p>
