Contest: What’s Your Idea for @Simonleung Day?
July 27th, 2008 · by @WarrenWhitlock · Filed Under: Twitteratti
It’s @Simonleung day for our tweeps.
As we’ve done before.. we’ve chosen to honor Simon on his birthday, but asking all our followers to follow Simon and tweet about it.
But today.. I’m adding a little bit of a twist…
I’ll be choosing one commenter from this blog post to get a day later this week.. some followers and perhaps some other gifts.
Here’s how to play:
- Follow @Simonleung - He’s an ex Google employee, helped create Adwords, and super guy you’ll want to follow
- Tweet to about Simon, and his blog posts or activities.. tell your follower to follow Simon
- Send a “Happy Birthday” tweet to @Simonleung
- Post a comment here. Share your best idea about what we should do for @Simonleung day and future promtoions like.
The best idea of the day, or comment here will win the prizes.

Visit Simon’s blog, find a post you like, write a post on your blog or site praising or reviewing Simon’s blog and provide a link back to your favorite post. Try to use link text containing wording relevant to the post.

I still like the idea of sending via Tweet or blog post, a favorite clean joke.. Nothing like a good laugh to chase away the “Birthday Blues”. Here’s mine.
There are three kinds of people…Those who can count and those who can’t.
Ok so it’s almost 3AM my time..what do you expect.

Hi Warren,
I saw that it was Si’s bday and congratulated him. Great idea to Follow him, whether or not it’s his bday.
Another idea is to buy one of his products, if you have the need to learn more about Adwords and PPC.
See you on the inside!

@karenKramer Good to send as much variety as possible.
1) keeps the promo fresh
2) more entertaining for recipient
3) more fun!

@angela
That’s the real way to get someone’s attention.
Do make sure you tweet and wish Simon a happy bday. He may not immediately notice the sale, but will get your tweets.
Buying a quality product, you win 2 ways… you get the good item, plus you build a connection with the author.
I’ve never met an author who didn’t love hearing me tell about buying his stuff.. no matter how big they get. And while Simon is a rising star.. I know he still notices when someone buys

Hey Simon,
Just wanted to wish you a SUPER Birthday!
Best wishes

Having met @SimonLeung at jvAlert Live not long after his escape from the clutches of Google, I thought to myself “this is one smart guy, I would love to be friends with him!”
Then, it seemed like no matter which seminar I was attending, there was @SimonLeung telling us about the best ways to “Slap Google Back” and more!
But it wasn’t until Ross Goldberg’s Workshop in Sarasota, FL that I really caught on to twitter and how it was possible to make friends with someone as busy as Simon. He was one of the first people I added when I joined twitter, because he is always having a good time!
I think it is really cool that you are honoring @SimonLeung with his own day! I know that he will feel the love of hundreds of new followers and it will make his day!
Have an amazing day!

PS - One of the people I recommend you do a day for is Joel Comm. That guy is making a difference in every area of the web he touches, and now he is interested and enjoying twitter - so get ready to ride the wave!

How about this idea for @simonleung day:
Submit a new event to Chase Calendar related to Internet Marketing, such as “Internet Marketing Week”, or something like that, to correspond to Simon’s bday? This way, it’ll carry forward year after year after year…
Happy Birthday Simon!

Happy Birthday, Simon!
How about a webinar for people that are new to Adwords? Nothing beats giving back to the community on your special day…
May all your wishes come true.
Warmly,
Jocelyn

HAPPY Birth-Day Simon!
Surely All of Heaven is Rejoicing once again as they did on the Day of your birth!
So … Tell us What does a Winner Like You Do to celebrate his Birth Day? Did you call to Thank your Mother?
Caught your presentation @ Unseminar5 Yesterday…
WOW You really Know your Stuff!
Everyone needs to listen to what you have to share.
[IF they want to be successful too, that is]
Have a Wonder-Filled Day!

My solution?
Step 1: Buy yourself a shot (Preferably Tequila or a Washington Apple).
Step 2: Drink said shot.
Step 3: Repeat.
Step 4: After consistent repetition of the first three steps go to the Googleplex and literally “Slap Google Back”.
Step 5: Call Simon and ask for bail money.
That is all

I’m going to send Simon a drink on his Facebook account. He’s a lightweight, so it should only take one margarita to have him feeling good

I’m sitting with author friends after filming products and explaining who Simon is. It amazes me that authors need to learn so much about Internet marketing. Thank you Warren for connecting me to experts like Simon who can teach us how to market our books online.

WOOWOO….It’s Simon Day…….Happy B-Day Simon..
Hey Donna Fox..if he’s a lightweight like you say ….keep him away from those fit-a-rita’s mrfire’s making!!
How about we all have a margarita in his honor today!
Cheers everyone!

(Simon…Thanks for your presentation @ Unseminar5 yesterday. Was that a Party favor for us? It was awesome……thanks!)

S-smiles alot
I-interested in others
M-makes the world a better place by being in it
O-one guy who you want to know
N-next? who is he helping next or doing next…he’s FUN to watch
L-laughs and loves and that contagious stuff makes you feel good
E-enjoys what he does and it shows
U-understands how to help others and we appreciate his doing it
N-nice to meet and have around 24/7
G-gives something good to all he meets
SIMON LEUNG Day should recognize and celebrate ALL that person represents. That day honors his presence in this world and how he is making it a better place. He came into the world a tiny bundle crying and NOW is taking tiny bundles of the planet and leaving them CRYING for MORE LIFE.
That’s my STORY and I am sticking to it!

I’ve quietly been a follower of Simon’s for awhile now. Here is a man who really knows the meaning of hard work and intelligence. His presentations show us a guy who has worked to acquire specialized knowledge then instead of moving away from it like many others would have, he embraced it, added to it his focus, dedication and his special brand of enthusiasm so as to bring it all together in a way that is empowering and makes sense to a wide audience. Simon is someone that most would want to follow as an example of how to help others, do what they love and to make money doing it.

I’m new to following Simon so I’m going to read all of his stuff (there’s a lot) and then implement one of Simon’s great ideas every week for a month - what a bonus for me - 4 new techniques or tools under my belt - and I’ll make sure to let it be known where I learned it! Thanks so much for posting on twitter about this!

OK, I’ll bite. Why? Because Warren said so. Feeling like a tool; not so bad; kind of fun. Happy Birthday SimonLeung. Nice to meet you on such an auspicious day. My idea for your birthday: enjoy!

Thx for making this a bday to remember!
You guys rock

Here’s an idea…
Imagine a morning with a bright blue sky, wispy cirrus clouds stretched across the far horizon, and the chirps of morning birds welcoming the day… when suddenly, as the sun dial reads 8AM, a mysterious brilliant blue mass appears, with hundreds of yellow beaks.
A flock of Twitterers.
And they all start twittering at the same time:
“Happy Birthday @simonleung!” “Happy Birthday @simonleung!”
No other birds can be heard. It’s just the Birthday tweets that grab the attention of all.
“Happy Birthday @simonleung!” “Happy Birthday @simonleung!”
The Twitterers start extolling the virtues of the Twitterer that they’re tweeting about, arousing the curiosity of the others not included in the Birthday Cloud.
“Who is this @simonleung?” “Who is this person so many are tweeting about?”
Click.
Follow.
Click.
Follow.
Click.
Follow.
And so it goes… proving that organized tweeting will capture the attention of the Twitterverse. Especially as the numbers grow and grow and grow.
Just an idea…
Kathleen
P.S. Happy Birthday, Simon! Hope it’s a happy and happening one for you!
