Bloggers Tweet Up at Las Vegas Weekly Event

Thursday evenings in Vegas have become a regular meeting time for the bloggers that tweet

We started the Tweet up when @CoachDeb was in town last June. A few were held during 2008, and then really picked up after the Las Vegas WordCamp in January.

At the Feb 26th Tweetup, we had a bit smaller crowd. Some were out covering a NASCAR event, others had traveled to Denver for a WordCamp there.

Still, dozens of tweeting bloggers were there.

If you are going to be in Vegas on a Thursday, tweet me and I’ll get you connected with whatever event is happening that day.

Are You the Media? You Can Be

I’m heading out to LA for Mark Victor Hansen’s Mega Book Marketing University this Friday-Sun (2/27-3/1). Click here for venue information

While there, I’ll be tweeing up with any authors that use Twitter. If you are in the LA area, use Twitter, and want to become well know and have a best selling book, drop by the event lobby Friday or Saturday afternoon. (Tweet me @WarrenWhitlock to let me know your are coming).

Mega is a must for authors.. but the tweetups will be in the lobby and no ticket is required.

Be The MediaOn Friday 2/27, I’ll be doing my radio show from somewhere near LAX with @RobMcNealy and @BeTheMedia talking about how authors, bloggers, entrepreneurs and everyone can “be the media” and how you can get the recognition you, your book, and your business deserve.

You can join us live in the chat room Friday night at 7:00 pm Pacific time at http://TwitCastRadio.com

Twitter FUN in Vegas.. Affiliate Summit Report

It’s Monday at Affiliate Summit West here in Las Vegas. You can follow what we are doing on TweetChat using #ASW09 hash tag.

Started the day with breakfast where we saw that Germans like Frosted Flakes

Then there was an amazing session with @GaryVee who took a question from the audience about balancing social media use with “real work”

What you have to realize is that social media IS real business

Twitter is everywhere at this conference. I took this shot while sitting next to @MariSmith during the Facebook session

The Biggest Douchebag in Social Media?

Tonight’s http://TwitCastRadio.com was my Twinterview with @MattBacak, who was recently subjected to a Twitter Storm of negative tweets over a press release he issued about his social media activities.

Matt has been promoting online, teaching others how to marketing their books and businesses on the Internet and building several multi-million dollar businesses.

While the press release statements were true, they gave the impression that Matt was in Stage 2.. looking for a way to profit or use technologies like Twitter.

I knew this wasn’t like Matt. So I invited him to tell us what happened.

Listen to the interview now. I think you’ll agree that it’s a story of a sincere guy, who learns from his mistake. (no wonder he’s been so successful).

Do you think Matt was genuine on the call? I admit to not being totally objective, but I think you’ll hear that he is the man of integrety I know and love

Is Twitter All Just Fun and Games?

I was thinking about the world social and especially what it means in social media.. preparing for my presentation at Increasing Sales With Social Media coming up tomorrow in San Diego.

(you can still get your ticket here, or listen to just my segment live at Friday at 9am Pacific on TwitCastRadio).

Is this play or work?

You may have heard me say “If you can tell the difference between work and play, you aren’t doing one of them right” .. but people in stage 1 or 2 keep telling me that they are looking for:

  • How do I make more money with social media?
  • Does Twitter get me more customers?
  • What’s the ROI on using Twitter?

I’ve answered these question so many times. Told them that marketing in the future is dependant on meaningful connections and building relationships with real human beings.

Then I tell them a couple of stories about people making money with their social media connections, doing business faster and why meaningful connections will make their work more like play and play profitable.

I thought I really knew this stuff.

Then I get this tweet:

I have to admit that my immediate reaction when I read the post was “What a lot of nonsense! I have real work to do”

I’m literally sitting next to my front door, should be on my way to the airport.. and I’m reading a blog about playing tag?

Mike1Just then, I noticed @mvndrvrt’s photo on his web page with the caption that this was him in his work clothes

He get it. Work is play, play is work. Life is FUN!

Thanks for the reminder Mike

So here I am, not worried about being late for my flight.. playing tag on my blog.

You can read the rules here.. I’m breaking the rules (NO RULES.. remember) so subscribers to the blog and everyone I know on Twitter will get to be “it”

Tag.. Your it?

Link back to this post.. follow the rules on @mvndrvrt’s post if you’d like, but do follow @mvndrvrt for sure.

Then leave a comment here to let me know your thought on the difference between work and play.

Social Media Power Demonstration at PubCon Tuesday. Attend via Twitter

Attend my session via Twitter. Click here to use this search phrase

pubconI’m speaking at a PubCon seminar session titled “Social Media: The Big Sexy”

The session is described as:

It
got the buzz - it got the press - and it got your attention. Everyone
is loving talking and playing social media. However, you blog, you
tweet, you Facebook – so now what? Social media is the new frontier
with new rules and players. Skeptics don’t get social media because
they don’t see how they can measure results. In today’s world a mention
on a social media Web site is just as valuable as getting your name in
The New York Times, but not all companies understand that. Many CEOs
still believe that traditional media are the only media that matter,
but think again. To convince these skeptics companies have been pulling
their hair out trying to show them the value of a blog or tweet, but
don’t know how to convince the non-believers. This session will look at
the importance of social media hits and how to measure them, what you
can do to convince non-believers, and what you can do to show them that
social media is just as good as print media.

I figured the best way to explain the power of social media sites like Twitter would be to show them. So I’m planning to show them, and I NEED YOUR HELP

Attend via Twitter, participate from wherever you are

The event will start at 1:30pm on Tuesday Nov 11th here in Vegas. (that 4pm on the East Coast and 10am in Hawaii).

Here’s how you participate

  1. Tweet that you are going to help me show the power of Twitter and Social Media. Include the hashtags #sexy and #pubcon

  2. A few minutes before the start time, tweet again and open a window to follow these tags ( #pubcon OR #sexy) http://search.twitter.com/search?q=+%23pubcon+OR+%23sexy

  3. We will have people in the session tweeting live. There will be links for fast action fun and prizes.

If you have questions, comments, ideas, PLEASE tweet me @WarrenWhitlock
