I wouldn’t give watch this video if it weren’t for the story behind it… but here’s why I’m posting it.

Best Buy suspended an employee for making a video about cell phone (without mentioning anything about him or his relationship with that company).

Now Paramount Pictures is looking at his work.

As you watch, think about what this means to the future of media.

• Should we be encouraging employees to share their views at home, or even at work?
• Will tomorrow’s stars be Twitter stars first?
• How can you set a social media policy in this fast changing world?

Once you have more than a few dozens friends to follow, you can’t read everything that they tweet.

Twitter Lists lets you capture any number of users and put them on a list. If they are public, you can share what you find with everyone. (a good way to find more people for your network)

Once again, the numbers show fast growth, but show that we are just getting started in this Twitter revolution.

While the majority of people in the US know about Twitter, there is room for enormous growth both in the adotpi0n of Twitter, and actual use.

Watch “Twitter Usage in America 2010” video from Edison Research:

Highlights of the study include:

• Awareness of Twitter has exploded from 5% of Americans 12+ in 2008 to 87% in 2010 (by comparison, Facebook’s awareness is 88%)
• Despite equal awareness, Twitter trails Facebook significantly in usage: 7% of Americans (17 million persons) actively use Twitter, while 41% maintain a profile page on Facebook.
• Nearly two-thirds of active Twitter users access social networking sites using a mobile phone
• 51% of active Twitter users follow companies, brands or products on social networks

The best idea from this came at the end of the video.. a bit of a rant from @webby2001  on how the focus of Twitter apps and training have been on using Twitter and getting a message out… and that the future would be revealed as to how Twitter can improve our lives.

The study did conclude that most Twitter users are not tweeting… just lurking. I think there’s a flaw there.

As expected, Twitter is a SXSW this week and @ev has spoken.

Big news is the many blogs and web sites that will be adding the @anywhere platform to allow people to interact without switching to Twitter.

As a Twitter author, I have several apps and windows open at any time and all sorts of plug ins and extensions to share content and comment at every chance I get. I teach this in every class and most every interview. the Twitter Revolution is CONVERSATION.

The conference is a must for those at the forefront of social media technology. It’s the show where Twitter really took off.  Follow the action by searching on SXSW.

But be careful, there are some crazy people out there.
