Let’s demonstrate the power of Twitter and online social networking by using this chapter in such a way where you can begin to experience the Twitterverse and the power of the blogosphere for yourself. Shall we?
In this printed book, we’ve shared the TOP 10 Business Reasons you need to Tweet.
Now, it’s YOUR turn to contribute and be a part of this book – online! This is what we call an “iChapter” (interactive Chapter) where we start the chapter off here, and you finish it online with additional reasons and ways people Tweet and use online social networks.
It’s a new way of writing books – interactively. Thus the “I” standing for interactive, because the knowledge doesn’t stop here. You’ll continue to expand your mind and learn from many different people on their perspectives on how, what and why people tweet.
To add your two cents on reasons why you tweet, add your comments below.
Hey, you might discover a new way to market online and use mobile marketing for your brand or business simply by seeing another business owner’s strategy for using Twitter in their business!
The moment this book is released and available, we’ll send a tweet to our followers on Twitter and ask them to add their reasons to tweet, so you can begin to get so many additional ideas of ways and reasons to use Twitter that you might not ever have thought of on your own.
This way, you can share your expertise and learn from others and get different perspectives other than the authors of this book. Sound like a plan?
(SIDE BENEFIT of this new way of writing a chapter:
We trust you’ll enjoy this creative way of saving paper, keeping this book shorter than a 1,000 page text book of which it could become, all while keeping you updated with the most up to date content and trends on Twitter by you taking advantage of up to date blogs and comments from users themselves.)
Let’s get the list started based on the tweets we’ve received, and trends we’ve observed during our time on Twitter…
- Twitter combats loneliness – in an age where we’re so busy with our lives, businesses and transient lifestyle, many solo business owners who spend 90% of their day locked up in their offices are now turning to Twitter to get inspired from other like-minded people – regardless of their geographical location.
- Kill the boredom when standing online – no longer do you need to be impatient when standing on a long line during the holidays. Instead, be sure to have your mobile phone with you, tuned in to Twitter so you can participate in the conversation and share a little about what you’re up to while you’re (patiently) waiting in line.
- Twitter is easy to use when traveling – You can tweet from your mobile phone which gives you fast communication to all the people you know who are following you so you can get help or information when you need it, or share what you’re up to so we can live vicariously through you for a moment.
- Twitter gives you instant access to thousands of people from your cell phone just by hitting the send button via text messaging
- Twitter allows you to keep your cell phone number private yet still communicate with your tribe of clients, subscribers and following
- Twitter gives you the ability to connect with people of diverse backgrounds, countries, areas and opinions, giving you access to a wealth of knowledge on any given subject
- You can outsource your memory to Twitter – next time you forget something – just tweet the question and watch how quickly your memory gets jogged with the answers you’ll get!
- Remember The Milk is an app that husbands are using to stay out of the dog house
- Jott.com and Utterz.com allows you to communicate with your tribe using voice
- Fast communication – with 140 character limits your clients, followers and business associates are forced to Get to the POINT and not waste a lot of your precious time
Now it’s YOUR turn to share the reasons why YOU tweet online by adding your comments below.

I tweet to keep up with personal and professional friends. I also tweet to keep up with different aspects of internet marketing and information pertaining to my own businesses.
I tweet because I love having access to 1000 of my friends all the time. It is fun, helpful and great for business!
I tweet to connect my customers and my business associates. The concept that some marketers aren’t real drives me nuts and I love being able to show the truth to those that pay attention!
I tweet to avoid feeling isolated.
Aggregate & read great content from across blogosphere. It works like RSS reader.
To promote my blog post and expect some twitter visitors.
To network with pro’s in the field which is otherwise impossible to even say hi.
+1 on “Twitter combats loneliness.” I’ve recently gone solo after years working in organizations … miss the casual conversations, and Twitter provides some of that.
Also: surrounding myself with people who are up to great things is inspiring — even if I don’t know them (yet).
Twitter gives you access to a world of information with just a few keystrokes. Nothing faster than sending out a tweet into the big ol’ world and getting a flurry of helpful replies… not even Google. But I also tweet because I want to be one of the early adopters and cool kids.
I tweet to share with others, keep up with old friends, meet new ones and see what others are up to!
I tweet simply so i dont have to SAY the same message 100 times, just say it once and it gets sent to all of my friends. I also tweet to keep up with the latest news from friends!
Better than a cocktail party! I have my good old friends that always want to talk… New friends that I am learning about their business and personal lives… and I can listen in to any conversation without looking like a stalker.
Twitter seems to bring out the best in people… and when I follow someone who just doesn’t fit with my personality, I can unfollow click – click.
Plus… Twitter friends don’t have a problem if you didn’t show up to the party for several days (or forgot to bring a cake.
I work at home. Alone. For 20 years. I enjoy following ideas and getting to know people. Recently had lunch with Tweeter Mark David Gerson when he was in town promoting his new writing book The Voice of the Muse.
I tweet to brand myself as a cybrarian and SEO guru. I do this by posting interesting websites and tips, as well as social media info.
Tweeting is a great way to read the pulse of this planet. There is so much going on around the World, and it is so cool to hear about things as they are happening. Tweeting helps us to know our online friends better. Staying connected with all our friends, old and new, brings us closer together and reminds us that we are never alone. It is amazing how much we learn from just a few lines in a tweet. Every moment counts…
Twitter gives you an opportunity to network with different groups of people that you might have never been able to meet before. Because of the way the follow system works, I have been able to meet so many well respected and knowledgeable people that have been able to help me build my business.
Twitter is fun – persons of same interests – social media to learn more of what you are interested in and short reading – I work so much that I do not like to read long items – I have learned a lot of variety of subjects from persons of interest on twitter.
Twitter’s an aggregator, a window to the world, a network of potential friends & contacts of every sort as well as a means of expression. When used well, it prompts & encourages thought while offering answers & inspiration.
I not only maintain friendships via Twitter but my sanity as well for I’m oft house-bound & each tweet keeps me connected. Its reach is easier & beyond any other available.

To tweet or not to tweet is never the question..
I tweet cos having only 140 characters means u learn & share quickly, easily. I see it as the coatstand that my online profiles hang from.
– and yup – that answer is 140 characters exactly ;0)
TaTa4Now @CanDoCanBe
I tweet to stay connected with people from various industries and circles as well as a way to keep them all in the loop of what’s up with me. Love it as it updates my Facebook status and can get connected with people who wouldn’t have the time to book-off some one-on-one time on a fly!
Because I’m deaf, do not always have access to group conversations when face to face. Twitter is my virtual watercooler and I have full access to conversations.
I use twitter to network, making new and staying connected with old friends. Because of its simplicity, I usually tweet after finishing a task and taking a small break. You can invest as much time as you want, as other activities permit.
It is amazing how much information, knowledge and wisdom can be delivered in 140 characters or less. So stop reading about using twitter and go get your feet wet!
Thanks Deborah and Warren for writing ans sharing the Twitter Handbook. I have not finished it yet, I am on page 95 and followed your recommendation to come over and share my reasons why I tweet. Wish you best folks.
p.s. By the way, I noticed that most people that commented before linked to their websites. I think that they should have linked to their twitter page. This is a twitter post, ¿isn’t it?

I tweet to stay connected to great friends and it works great as a feed reader in a way as I can see when blogs I like post and click the ones I want to explore/read.
I tweet to:
1. connect to likeminded people
2. see what’s going on in the tweetosphere
3. am still trying to learn how to use it to leverage contacts and get new business.
I initialy began using Twitter as a way to find prospects for my business. I very quickly discovered how much more there is. I can quickly others who share my interests and how my reach is now global.
I have really fallen for this – I am very excited about the possibilities.
I tweet to inform. I listen for responses. I join in conversations. I learn so much more. I love social media – its a great marketing tool.
And only in 139 chars!

I tweet for many of the reasons listed above as well as the following:
I tweet to follow the latest news (I follow a lot of news accounts). I also like to pass the news stories on, so others may have them in a timely fashion.
I tweet as a blip.fm DJ, so that others may have fun and enjoy the songs I select. I especially like to play retro, oldies, and Christian music.
I tweet, at times, to express my strongly held views on things. I believe if something is important enough to believe in, it’s important enough to share.
I tweet to share information and things of interest with others. I love that other tweeters do the same. We are all learning so much from each other. I am loving every minute of the learning experiences I have here on Twitter!
I tweet to give others inspiration and motivation. That is why I tweet a lot of quotes.
I tweet to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, bc fighting blood cancers such as Leukemia and MDS are important.
7. I tweet to cultivate relationships. To continue them. To be a part of them, to celebrate them! I enjoy being in relationships, and I enjoy being part of the community, a community we call Twitter!
8. I tweet just bc it’s fun! Sometimes on Twitter we just have a blast! I love the great human interaction.
9. I tweet for the intellectual stimulation. Whether it be by joining in a very fast paced hashtag chat, learning new facts from a link provided by a tweeter, or reading a post that may stretch my mind — I tweet to sharpen my mind, and for what I can learn.
